The body of Christ has sometimes devalued the intellect as unimportant but we are created with good rational minds, and He is very interested in our thoughts and our thought processes. “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar…you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.” (Ps. 139:1-4) He knows all our ways, all our thoughts, while giving us the freedom to choose where we set our thoughts. When we come to Christ, we begin to realize the importance of our thought life and recognize our vital responsibility to have a renewed mind in Christ. “Thoughts are the place where we can and must begin to change. There the light of God first begins to move upon us through the word of Christ, and there the divine Spirit begins to direct our will to more and more thoughts that can provide the basis for choosing to realign ourselves with God and his way. The ultimate freedom we have as human beings is the power to select what we will allow or require our minds to dwell upon.” (Dallas Willard, p. 95, Renovation of the Heart). Here we see the interplay of mind and will.
